Looking to take the next step in your career? Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Director, Oil Sands to join the Energy team in Calgary.
Reporting to the Global Director of Upstream Oil & Gas, the incumbent will be responsible for the development and growth of our Oil Sands business in Alberta. The individual chosen will be based in our Calgary office and will be required to travel to our client’s sites. The role requires a proven track record in the development and delivery of projects, as both a team member and team leader. A key performance area of this role will be the successful delivery of engineering in accordance with budget, schedule, and quality expectations. In addition to the project delivery aspect of this role, it also requires a keen focus on our clients and ensuring that their business goals are met through the projects that we execute.

As the successful candidate, you will:
Develop and execute a multi-year strategy and support tactical business plans for Hatch’s Oil Sands business.
Lead and direct, Oil Sands business development activities including: the identification of new clients and opportunities, pursuit plan development, proposal preparation, presentations, and deal-making; with the support of relevant Hatch subject matter experts and support teams.
Manage a portfolio of Oil Sands business pursuits including the preparation and maintenance of: work forecasts and proposal logs; monthly and quarterly reporting; operational budgets, client engagement models and marketing activities.
Actively cross sell all Hatch service offerings in the region through coordination with peers and counterparts within Hatch.
Maintain an effective, up to date, working understanding of technologies, trends and technical aspects relevant to the Oil Sands industry.
Ensure delivery on commitments to Clients by providing oversight on scope, cost and schedule for projects and assignments.
Perform project and engineering management functions for small and medium sized Oil Sands studies, projects and assignments as required.
To develop and maintain an internal network of peers and subject matter experts to support successful business, project and technical outcomes
To provide strong functional and operational leadership, management and administration for Hatch’s Oil Sands.
To meet and exceed business performance objectives (e.g. utilization; budget commitments; expenses etc.) in accordance with global targets.
You bring to the role:
Bachelor of Science degree in engineering.
10+ years’ experience in a multi-disciplinary environment in Oil Sands projects and in particular, front-end loading engineering studies, conceptual and basic engineering design.
Registered as a Professional Engineer.
Experience in technology development and / or operational support will be advantageous
General knowledge of industry, regulatory standards and local design criteria
Demonstrated business development track record
Business acumen and working knowledge of commercial, legal and intellectual property aspects of engineering and technical assignments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to plan, organize, lead and control business and technical activities.
Ability to handle complex problem-solving tasks, facilitate decision making and develop technical objectives to support effective business outcomes.
Preference will be given to candidates with background in ore preparation and tailings projects for mineable oil sands
